The latest update from apple creates some problems. It broke my existing install of mysql.
Mac 10.6.3 update broke mysql
From phpMyAdmin I get
#2002 - The server is not responding (or the local MySQL
server's socket is not correctly configured)
server's socket is not correctly configured)
This is on an iMac machine so its the client. Not Snow Leopard Server. I had the 32bit mysql-5.1.40-osx10.5-x86 originally installed.
There is definitely a problem somewhere.
Now the service isn't running. I'll check some things out any thoughts would help..

Fixed it by upgrading and moving the data directory over
installed the latest from mysql.com and moved the data from the original over.
#1045 Cannot log in to the MySQL server
